Ideally situated on a hilltop, Dhour El Choueir, is one of Mount Lebanon's most favored summer resorts, overlooking the city of Beirut and the Mediterranean sea. Its red tile roofs add an elegant touch to its green environment.
Dhour El-Choueir is important for its yearly carnival, held in August that celebrates and honors Lebanon's immigrants.
It is the birthplace of Anton Saadeh who founded the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and of Tanios Bou-Nader Khneisser, the father of the Sword & Shield Folkloric Dance.
As to Dhour Al-Choueir's inhabitants, they were known for their style in architecture. They were the masons of most of the historical places in Lebanon among which stands out Fakhreddine's Palace. All the ancient buildings one is likely to encounter immortalize in their delicately engraved sculpture the hands of the Choureirin mason.
